Associated Content and Helium are no doubt two of the easiest places to have your articles published on the Internet. You don't have to be a particularly skillful writer and there is no sample work required. Basically all you need is a PayPal account and something to say. So this makes them a really good place for a newbie to start writing online. You can make some extra cash and start getting some of your content on the Internet. But on the flip side the pay blows, it may be hard to get an upfront payment and Helium is as confusing as Father's Day at Shawn Kemp's house. There are two different types of stars and the payments vary by different factors that aren't well explained. They will give between 50¢ and $2.50 upfront, assuming you submit one of the first five articles in a title. AC claims they give between $1-$20 upfront, more often than not you will find yourself on the lower end. It is easier to get an upfront payment with Helium, just search until you find a title with less than five articles. With Associated Content you need something that is incredibly specific and/or differs from existing topics to get that upfront payment, not always an easy task. Helium pays once a month only after you reach the $25 threshold. AC pays the upfront amount once the article is reviewed and accepted, performance payments are given once a month. And finally Helium giveg a $5 first article payout. AC often pays $10 if you submit 10 articles in your first month, $5 for 5. Of course this means if you sign up on the 28th of October you must have 10 in by the 31st, so you may want to sign up at the beginning of a month. So as much as it kills me to say this, Associated Content really is, in my opinion, the better of the two. But, I would suggest you submit to both anyway. Once your article is approved by AC, non-exclusive of course, submit it to Helium; under a title with less than five articles if possible. You might as well maximize your earnings.
